To qualify for Social Security benefits based on your ex-spouse's earnings history if you are divorced, you must fulfill the requirements listed below.

While your ex-spouse is still living, you can get Social Security payments based on their earnings. You cannot, however, receive benefits based on your ex's earnings in addition to your own.

Your ex-spouse must have been your spouse for at least 10 years, and you must be at least 62 years old and single to qualify.

If you later remarried,won’t be eligible to receive Social Security payments based on your ex-spouse's earnings history unless your subsequent marriage was dissolved through an annulment, divorce, or death.

You are eligible to receive up to 50% of your ex-primary spouse's insurance benefit, which is the monthly payment they would have been entitled to at full retirement age.

When filing right after reaching full retirement age, ex-spouses are eligible for the highest benefit amount.

The sum is lowered to as little as 32.5% of the full benefit of your ex-spouse if you apply for the benefits early.

You are still eligible to receive your ex-retirement spouse's benefits even though they are not currently being collected. However, the divorce must have been finalized at least two years earlier.
