With money from city savings that were accumulated after the city was unable to replace specific positions, the council move is anticipated to cover 5,700 of the employees.

Additional compensation for the staffing shortages included double overtime pay, hiring bonuses, temporary retention bonuses, and pay changes.

Employees who were on call or worked fewer than 30 hours per week are not eligible for the incentive. Full-time and part-time workers are both eligible.

As a result of their own contracts that specify compensation and bonuses, law enforcement officers and firefighters are also ineligible.

Following Denver's approval of a $400 bonus for city employees who received the COVID-19 vaccine last year, Monday's award is the second one that has recently been approved by city lawmakers.

A Friday distribution of the new bonuses is anticipated, with a deadline of December 30. Residents across the state will receive additional funds on January 31. Individuals will receive $750, while joint filers will receive $1,500.
